On the horizon

The Durham house

A brick bungalow in Trinity Park, between East and West.

Durham gets a house a few blocks off Ninth Street: a brick bungalow with a deep porch, a host family who have fed more than one all-nighter, and a table that fills every Thursday with Blue Devils from both ends of the bus line.

The House

Where to find us

A short walk from East Campus across Broad Street, in the old streets of Trinity Park. The C1 drops you at East in ten minutes from West; most of the table walks from there.

The host family

A Durham couple, one who teaches and one who cooks, with a porch that holds twenty and a kitchen that has stayed open past midnight during finals. They will ask what you are reading and actually want to know.

Getting there

  • On foot: ten minutes from East Campus, across Broad Street and into Trinity Park.
  • By bus: the C1 from West to East, then a short walk. GoDurham stops on Ninth Street.
  • By car: street parking in Trinity Park after 6 pm. The driveway is for the host family.

Every conservative Blue Devil on campus has a seat at the table. Membership is verified simply, so the table stays genuine.

The rhythm

A week at Durham

Come to any of it. Most people start with Thursday and work outward.

  1. Thursday, 7:00 pm

Weekly dinner. Catered properly. RSVP in the app, no agenda.

  2. Sunday, 4:00 pm

Formation session in the back room. Pillar One this term: logic and rhetoric.

  3. Game days

Watch parties on the porch, and the walk to Cameron when somebody has tickets.

  4. Fall and spring break

The retreat, shared with the other houses. Three days, one lodge.

Before your first Thursday

The three things people ask

Do I need to RSVP?
Yes, by Wednesday noon, so the host family knows how many are coming. Your first time, the form on this site is the RSVP; we will reply with the address. After that it is one tap in the app. Bringing a friend? Put them on your RSVP so there is a plate.
I live on West. Is Ninth Street far?
Fifteen minutes on the C1 and a short walk, and you will not ride alone. Half the table comes over from West every week, and the last bus back runs well after dinner ends.
Is there a cost?
None. Dinner is free, always. Trips carry a small cost that points can cover.
